The Wake County school board’s newly elected vice chair is leaving the board to fill a vacant position on the Wake County Board of Commissioners due to the recent death of Commissioner James West.
Tara Waters was appointed vice chair of the board just last month.

The agenda states that the board will address “recognition of outgoing board member, Tara Waters,” as well as a discussion of filling the District 4 vacancy, which is also up for election in November.
